I'm a 3rd year chicken raiser and have decided to try my luck with hatching. I have about a dozen of my own eggs set aside and if I can't convince my broody hen to take them, I'll be throwing them in the incubator when my 40 exotic assorted eggs arrive from McMurray. I've read mixed reviews on getting shipments of hatching eggs but thought I'd take my chances and that's it would be neat to have a rare breed that I hatched :) does anyone have any advice or tips or experience with ordered eggs?

When you get your eggs, unpack them and set them on your counter with the fat side up. They need to rest and come up to room temp. Because they are shipped eggs, the air cells may be damaged and detached. I did not turn my turkey eggs for the first 7 days of incubation. This might be too long for chicken eggs. Anybody know for sure?

Good news! Are you going to mark the air cells? I monitor the air cells so I can use that to adjust the humidity. Do you have an egg turner or going to hand turn? I number each egg so I can make notes as I candle the eggs during the incubation. Remember the day you set the eggs is day 0, the next day is day 1. If you set on a Thursday your eggs will hatch on a Thursday- 3 weeks later. Best of luck!

Well. FedEx lost my shipment so McMurray put in a new order for me next week. The wait continues
