I have 10 eggs in a Nurture right 360, yesterday first pip from two, 5 am this morning my first hatchling from the second pipped egg. Seems good and drying off. Small progress from the first pipped egg yesterday afternoon.

The new hatchling keeps opening its mouth as if stretching or something, and seems to be taking short breaths...is this normal?

congrats on the hatch :jumpy:ya:wee - first time?

I've never used an incubator so can't help with your questions sorry, but the message I've taken away from many other posts on a similar theme is to try to curb your enthusiasm, don't keep opening it and thereby messing up the temp and humidity, and try to be patient! No doubt more with experience will chime in soon :p

As stated above breaking free of the egg is hard work, I have seen new hatchlings breath hard and not move much for hours after hatching. Be patient. Also stated above only open incubator if you need to remove dried chicks who are causing havoc with the other eggs, rolling them around etc. which you don’t have to remove them until all are hatched but I like to remove the ones which are dry and moving around to the brooder so they don’t knock the others around who are trying to hatch.

Thanks so much for the messages of comfort and confidence. I am definitely yielding the advice and not opening the incubator. The one hatchling is moving around and very curious - oh and the breathing is better also. I am hoping the movement/chirping may encourage the others to pip also.

It sure will. Patience is your best friend when hatching.. I do t have many when they are hatching I arch the incubator like a hawk. Lol
