I'd say keep it inside until he dries off. then try with mom again and see how that goes. good luck!

Chick needs heat plate to warm up and survive. Since the hen has left the nest prior to bonding/imprinting on the chick, it is unlikely that she will do so. It sounds/looks like the hen has broken broodiness for some reason.

Sorry but I don't quite understand. Spirit got injured and went broody around the same time so she's been sitting on eggs and just hatched one baby so far?

Or was she never broody in the first place?

I'm new to chicken ownership.
Spirit was hurt & laid 4 eggs. So, I let her keep them, thinking she would be still & heal. She's never been a mean chicken but didn't like it if I touched her eggs.

While Spirit healed, I would let her out of the cage for cleaning & giving snuggles. Spirit would go back to her eggs, on her own. She purrs at them.

I took the cold baby & warmed it up. I'm next to Spirit's cage. When baby chirps, Spirit purrs.
Spirit was watching the baby. I don't think she knows what baby is. Baby is hopping around ant then just falls asleep!

Spirit is scared of the baby. Is this normal for first time moms?

I tried. Mom RAN as far away as she could.

She sits on the eggs if baby isn't with them. She will not be close to baby.
