First ice...now snow..Updated this a.m. pictures

Sometimes the weathermen get gun-shy I think and once we start getting hit they "over predict" just to cover their butts. They were pretty much on target for us tho....they said up to 9" for us and there's 8-9 out there. Hays got about 13". The wind is starting to blow here so it's starting to drift...but at least it's quit snowing. I'm waiting on my hubby to come get me to start scooping cattle feed bunks out. This weather is hard on the cows, but at least we aren't calving yet.

The pic of you dog is darling.we got dusted with snow.........BUT our ice melted . my trees are poppin back up off the ground

yes, I always think of the livestock in the fields when any kind of storm hits. I think you are right about the weathermen. I was looking forward to staying in p.j.'s and using the weather as an excuse. ha ha dh did bring me breakfast in bed this morning though. Why does it always taste sooo much better when we don't fix it ourselves? ha
Okie, you got lucky and I am so glad the ice is melting for you now.

Good morning!

Just checking in on this lazy snowy day.

Katy, those pics of your place are so pretty. Hope your cows are ok. How's your cute, new fluffybutt peeps doing? I have been thinking of you and your eggs you had in the incubator. You got a lot of snow.

Okie, so glad you got a little break to thaw out before the the next round comes.

Ozarkhen, We didn't get what was predicted either. They were only prediciting 3-4 inches, but we got about an inch.

Everyone stay warm!

Smitty....My new fuzzy butts are in my "hard luck eggs thread". I had a total of 6 eggs make it. The others are still in the bator, but I don't hold out much hope on them.

I'll check them out. So glad that some made it. You've been in my thoughts.

Your place is very pretty! Love your dog. What does your chickens think of the snow?

The chickens are not impressed. I think the only one to venture out that I saw was my young Copper Black marans roo. It doesn't phase my call ducks tho....I don't think they even went into their shelter last night!!

We never finished our run. It has a few sheets of tin in back of coop over the run for very small protection. That's where I keep their food and water. Last night we put a make shift tarp to help protect more of the run, but the snow blew in side ways and is all on the ground under tin roof in the run. So much for a roof for partial protection.

The tarp helped keep another part a little dry.
My flock doesn't know what to think of it. They are outside in the run though. I'm shocked they didn't run back into the coop. They were curious and checked out the snow and ate some, but now are avoiding it and trying to walk on driest areas of the run.
I'll go plow it out soon and throw some dry straw out for them soon.

Chickens are just fine. I was so worried about them last night, but they are fine. I'm about to go out there and throw dry hay in their run. They are running all over the run, even in the snow. Hope it's ok for their little feet. I'm a worry wart. I didn't use heat in the coop.

We actually didn't get much snow......not what they were predicting. It's enough to cover the ground, have a snow ball fight, make a snow man & maybe go sledding. It's about 1 1/2" I guess.

I'm so glad that you got a much needed break from the weather.
