Within seconds after hatching, newly-hatched chicks look far too big to have been in an egg.
The feet and legs of a newly-hatched chick look far too large for their bodies.
They seem completely and utterly exhausted after hatching. You will find yourself checking them to see if they are breathing quite often.
Hearing an egg peeping has to be one of the most surreal things ever.
They are not much to look at initially and really look like they are on death's door.
Then they fluff up and look adorable.

I'll post pics tonight. Believe it or not, I had to go to work this morning. I left husband minding the new brood. Out of 12 shipped eggs, we had 4 hatch. 2 black-split and 2 lavender orpingtons. The lavs are the color of steel wool, or as I told my husband, the same color as his hair. "They aren't brown", he said. In your dreams, I said.

Lav is so pretty; and love the orps! Sweet birds. Many people had to go into work today--I hear you. DH carries his work cell 24/7.

Enjoy your pretty babies!
