First loss to a hawk... got me thinking.

See, now you are telling me what I did not know, Thank you. I have only ever seen them make an aerial catch. Now that you say it it makes sense that they don't swop down in a ground attack.

The part about being triggered by movement... didn't know that either but it seems obvious now.

I'll admit it... dumb idea, but I am a think out side the box kinda person so...

In theory a white pigeon confined to a wire cage will pull in hawks like a cow draws flies.

FYI 2 or 3 #1 long spring traps set on top of or else near the cage will result in a captive hawk who you can than have a conversation with in regards to the Raptors' chicken killing ways.

The hawk will go absolutely bonkers running back and forth trying to flush the pigeon out of it's wire bunker, that's when you'll catch him, the hawk that is.

I like the rock idea lol; that's how to think outside the box ;)... And see how well you were shot down on the rock chicken haha, so it helps asking for help ;)

I agree that an older, more experienced roo would benefit greatly... If not possible, then with age comes wisdom...once they have seen their broodmate swooped up from the sky, they'll learn to watch it closer. It's a risk we take free ranging for sure...y biggest problem so far has actually been dogs. Stray, dumped dogs. Those get stalked and trapped.

No advice on hawk other than running for cover ;)
