First molt

Been finding lots of feathers in the coop and was wondering which hen was starting to molt. I think I found her this evening. This girl is 15 months and molting for the first time. I was thinking that I wouldn't see this until the fall, but here we are - unless something else is going on.

She's molting. Nothing to worry about. I typically offer my birds extra protein in the form of sardines or tuna fish during their molt. I give that to them three times a week.

Molting can begin anywhere from August thru December.
The days are growing exponentially shorter and that's what triggers annual molting.

They are on 20% feed; still need more throughout the week?

Mine seem to be starting a first molt too , probably feel better since it will be near 100 here in SC again next week.
