WE MADE IT!
We finally went out there and put them back into the henhouse - they were huddled in the corner of the run, chirping wildly. They were a little freaked
but settled right down in the pine shavings...that must have been a familiar thing to them and I think they were exhausted - they were asleep within minutes!
Went out to listen once, no chirping. This morning my DH woke up at 5am - he said they were all wide away, just looking around (the top of the henhouse is just hardware cloth, with that clear roof overhead so it has natural sunlight.....he lowered the ramp and they all came out immediately. I think we will raise the ramp for the first few weeks to help them understand that is where they should sleep, then maybe i'll feel comfortable about leaving it down so they can make a choice....the coop is completely enclosed in hardware cloth so it's very secure....
They went right over to the food and water. I'm thinking that we might need to put the small food and water in the henhouse while they are in there for the night - do I need to do that? We are waiting for the bigger water/feeder to come into Agway (they are all sold out!), so still have the little chick feeder/waterer they had in the brooder.
Now they are scratching around, happy as can be.
THANKS for all the support! Here are a few pics of the girls in the henhouse...
Here's hoping they are all hens - but that's for another thread!
