It's our first year with chicks and it has been fun watching them grow! Moved them to the nice coop and run my wife built as at five weeks old they seemed ready.

The coop is 4x4 feet inside with an external nesting box and two superb roost bars with plenty of space for our five chicks.

So naturally I went outside about 15 minutes after shutting them in the coop to take a peek through the window to see how they were doing. Guess the roost bars weren't as appealing as a window seat!

Mine didn't sleep on the roost bar until they were about 3-4 months old. They slept in a storage tote that I modified by cutting out a door and a couple small windows for ventilation. They would also go in there during bad storms or if something scary was around (hawk). I put the shavings that they were used to in the tote, so it was an easy transition from the brooder, which was a giant cardboard box, out to the the coop. The coop is fairly large, so the tote was a good way for them to feel secure in a smaller space, like they were used to. But the first night I remember, they wouldn't go in the tote to sleep, but instead slept in a pile just next to the tote. My husband suggested we cover the tote with cardboard because that's all they had ever seen. It worked like a charm, they happily went in the tote the following night. That's a super cute pic of them in the window!!

From your picture it looks pretty bright outside. They won't roost until it starts to get dark out. They may not use the roost right away by themselves, either. If you can, you could put them on the roost, when it gets dusk. Do this 2 - 3 nights and the will probably start going up themselves at dusk.
