My American Buff goose layed her first egg! And my boyfriend caught it on video! I am not sure if this was her actual first egg, as I have found some smaller ones in their coop (one of which I accidentally stepped on because it was buried outside of her nest) but this one is already quite big!! I was surprised that she laid it seeing as how they're still rather young, they were hatched in June so I was expecting eggs maybe in the spring time. This egg was very soft shelled, slightly dented. I've since increased calcium by putting a small dish of oyster shells in their pen so that they can free feed on it. I dissected the soft shelled egg and found that it was a double yolker!! Not really surprised because she is still young, so maybe there was a bit of miscommunication in her reproductive tract as she was laying.
So impressed by this egg though! Looking forward to many more! I've never tried a goose egg yet, so I'm excited to do so in the future.

Congratulations to you. Drats to me. I am going to have to get my Buffs and Poms separated this weekend. Hopefully it's not raining or I'll just be out there in the rain and cold too.
