My 19-week-old olive egger, Ruthie, laid her first beautiful green egg today (my 3-year-old barred rock’s egg included in pictures for size comparison)! That first egg never gets less exciting (for me, anyway) regardless of how many years I’ve been in this hobby.

So pretty! And at only 19 weeks!!
I was surprised, too! I have been feeding her (and rest of my flock) an all-flock pellet (I have fed starter-grower up to the point of lay or 18 weeks, whichever came first, in the past), so not sure if that has something to do with it. My Easter egger pullet (same age) has not started laying yet (and doesn’t appear to be close; no squat and no comb yet).

OK, that egg looks gray to me, but still cool color.
It is hard to capture the true hue.....and each computer may display it differently.

I got my first OE egg the other day...so exciting.
Well, first from a new crossing (BCM x CCL).
Far right egg is from Welsummer x EE..she was covered by BCM and those pullets should lay in another month.
