First Peachick Of The Season!

what a cutie!

I have made a boot of sorts in the past for a duck and one for a guinea...
I used 2 connected scotch mounting squares and bent them in a 'L' shape.
so that it would not bend and was firm....
taped the foot to the bottom and wrapped the remainder of the foot, ankle and
leg into the boot.... both walked great with it and after several weeks did
very well when the boot came off....

the duck use to 'walk' with his foot faceing backwards
and the guinea use to walk on his ankle, foot inwards

you can't tell either had a problem.... good luck

AWW it's beautiful.
Why do you tape the feet and leggs so early?
I have seen 100's of babie birds hatch(not peas) and the feet straighten out within 24 hours of hatch unless they have had a hard time hatching and stayed in the shell to long after pipping.
Just wondering as i have yet to hatch any peas yet but i did get 2 eggs that i am pretty sure are from my oldest hen, not fertil though, My Master P has no train, just one tiny eye feather .

I taped the feet because it was past 24 hours and they did not go straight. I got one to go in the pics. I took the tape off and the good one is starting to turn again so I think a retape is in the works. I will try the "boot" thing.

Do you have a picture of the boot so I can get an idea what it looks like? Thanks!!

unfortunatly I do not have a pic of it but think I can explain it...

you need scotch mounting squares, vet wrap, bandaid and scissors and someone to hold him when time to put on...

take the 2 connected mounting squares and bend them so the design side ends up on top, white side on bottom/back...
(using this made it a little softer on their feet since it is cushioned of sorts)
use another sticky mounting square and cut 2 small strips to 'anchor'each side /top to bottom by their sides
it now will look like a L with supporting brackets on each side....
take that sticky wrap like vets use to wrap the foot into the boot , first cutting to size and wrap once around boot...
now with the sticky part of a small bandaid tape his leg in the boot with his foot setting flat on bottom and
finish up by wrapping the rest of the vet wrap around the leg and foot in boot at least once.I cut the wrap at the bend in half
so it would not be too bulky...and the vet wrap attaches/adheres to itself...

I really hope this helps and that I explained it so you can understand...??....
