First post and my first time with chickens!

Chicks usually sell out within a week at the store. Sounds like you are probably right in your age guess of 1 week. Do they have feathers yet?

Sometimes the people helping with the chicks at the feed store are knowledgeable-but, often they are not. When I stopped in and peeked at the chicks at one of our feed stores the other day, there was a bin marked 'Ameracauna Pullets'. I told the guy helping out that I really thought they were mixed bantams, three times. Finally he went and asked someone and sure enough, I was right. I wonder how many people bought chicks from that bin before they put up the correct sign...I guess they are going to be surprised!

We had bible study at our house and one of the men was talking about the chicks at TSC, guess who brought home 25 the next day. Before the coop or brooder, luckily we had a brooder in a couple of days. But I wanted Rhode Island Reds, ended up with Golden Laced Wyandottes, but they are pretty all the same.

I know that, for us, having chicks in the house was the best incentive for building the coop. We got that baby built on schedule so we could get the birds out asap

Enjoy the cute fluffy stage - it definitely goes by fast.

I agree. They are probably no more than week judging from the amount of wing feathers they have. Real cuties!!!

Also, your little red guys don't look like RIR either. They look too gold, not very red. I have RIR crosses (Production reds) and mine did not feather white like that. Just looked at a few pics of RIR chicks and they don't appear to have that much white either. I think you may have something else for the darker chicks too. The experts can weigh in!

That is fine if they are either golden comets or BO's - I didn't have a preference on those. I was really wanting Rhode Island Red. I called TSC ( They probably think I'm nuts at this point since I have called them so much haha) and the guy confirmed that the chicks from over the weekend were Rhode Island Red... he said the hatchery told them thats what they were... I guess I will know if a couple more weeks when they start to get their adult feathers! It doesn't really matter to me - I just had preferences and I knew by getting them at TSC it would be a toss up. I didn't want to pay the 35$ for shipping to get the exact chickens I wanted. Maybe next year hehe.
