I am only on day 15 and one of my eggs is rocking about a lot. If it were to pip much before day 18 I guess it should go straight into lockdown? But what about the others?

edit:
There are two at it now so I guess that makes it easier as there are only 3 in there in the first place! I can lock down early if needs be?

An egg rocking on Day 15? Wow, that's a new one. Are you sure about the day count, did any eggs get started incubating elsewhere before they went into your bator?

Had to think a bit here. I would rather run the risk of losing one than the entire rest of the batch. If this chick should hatch so early, let it dry in the bator for 48 hours and then do a fast grab and move it to the brooder right before you lockdown the rest. I guess that's what I'd do anyway.

What kind of incubator and what's the temp? If it's been too high they may all start hatching early.
But SIX days early? I don't have much to offer on that, sorry.

Wait a minute- what kind of eggs are you hatching?

It may just be getting into position. Try to wait until day 18 for lockdown.
But, if you do get a pip go immediately into lockdown.
You really don't want the high humidity for the last 7 days if you can help it.

Good luck with your hatch and keep us posted.

They were mailed to me so I guess if the post office was particularly warm they may have started early? I do remember thinking they looked a bit further on than some of the candling pictures I'd seen for the relevant days but decided it was my ignorance and lack of candling skill!
I have a tiny polystyrene incubator with a fan which seems to completely regulate itself. My temp has been 37.5 C all the way through -except for three hours when we had a power cut on day 6- I think this killed the other 3 which is why I only have 3 eggs now. It was a first try with only 6 eggs but I have the bug now and have a dozen going in a second incubator!
And they are standard chickens not bantams to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks for the help:)- I'll get ready and go if I see a pip before time.
