Hi everyone, I've been reading as much as I can on here in preparation for the 3 Orpingtons we just picked up! This is such an inspiring and helpful resource, I'm looking forward to being an active member here!
Question one of many to come Im sure...
My property consists of a small plot where our house sits, and then we own a large section of a fairly dry creek bed that does flow when it rains, but for the most part (Socal) we do not get much rain. Would you recommend/codone letting you flock free-range, or be in some sort of tractor in the creek bed? What kind of issues, problems, or concerns should I have doing this?
Or would you strongly advise against letting them roam in the creek bed? Are there any concerns with manure in the water or anything like that? As far as I know, no one is allowed to irrigate or use the water downstream.
If pictures would help please let me know, but I guess I am mainly curious on how the chickens react around a small stream (I mean SMALL) and how they would affect the ecology therein.
Thanks in advance!
