I was out working the yard about 3 pm and had let everyone out to free-range. All was quiet, I was watering the rabbits when all of a sudden about 4 roosters call "ALARM ALARM ALARM" very loud and insistently! Not the quiet; watch out, hide hawk! But the loud WATCH OUT call!!! I look up over across the yard and all I see is this little coyote FLYING through the bushes towards my little Delaware flock, and said chickens FLYING through the air like startled quail!!! I dropped everything I had in my hands and ran as fast as I could over to where I saw it, everything happened SO fast, a few seconds at MOST! By the time I got over there all I saw was a big puff pile of white feathers on the ground. "Oh NO" I thought! I looked around for all 4 Deli's but could only find three. I searched around the house and in the bushes for a few minutes and didn't find her. I was sure she was gone. Coyote dinner. I went back and finished up in the rabbit pen and sat down for a break to watch some chicken TV. I was sitting there about half an hour, the three remaining Delawares sticking close, mind, when I looked over to my left and there she was! The fourth Deli! They all ran towards her and didn't leave her, mine, or my roosters side for the rest of the evening. How happy I was! The Deli's are my favorite and I was just thinking to myself, how out of all the Wyandottes I have, out of all the broiler roosters I have, that that darn coyote had to get one of my four favorites... So glad to say that I think the combo of having a lot of roosters AND the Deli's not having their wings clipped saved their lives. The roosters called just in time to give them that half a second to liftoff into the air, and their wings let them fly to safety! I will never trim another chicken wing again!

Yay for no coyote dinners!!!
