I have 10 white full size cochins. 3 of them are roos. the biggest is quiet and quite the gentleman. he watches out for the girls when they go to eat.

There is an upstart roo that has been pecked by the hens more than the gentleman roo. yesterday some songbird was outside the coop singing his heart out to who knows how many ladies. the upstart decides he is competition and that it is on. and starts crowing in the same sticcato as the song bird. Thankfully the songbird didnt start singing until about 3 or 4 oclock in the afternoon. now the roo thinks 4PM is a good time to crow, and he doesnt crow very early or very late.

That's funny. But it's good that he didn't decide that 5am is the right time to crow! I was beginning to wonder about my Silkie rooster as he had not crowed, and is almost a year old. But then, as I was cleaning up after the birds one afternoon about 3 weeks ago, he let loose a very manly crow that stopped me in my tracks. I looked at him and said "Good job Hector, that was a very manly crow!" His head whipped around to look at me and his chest puffed out. He seemed to genuinely like being complimented, lol. Is your boy the first of your roos to crow? I also have Bantam Cochins but they all started crowing at about the same time and love to outdo each other. Hector was the only one that wasn't crowing. But he has since caught up, so I don't worry about him anymore. He has the nicest crow of all the boys too!
