So, we just got our first rooster to add to our flock. It's a naked neck. He's so ugly he's cute and his name is Walter (they named him not us). Anyways, the question is: since he's 8 months old, will he stay as gentle as he is. He came from a person who had 100 hens and he was one of 4 roosters. He's so gentle and my son just loves him already. Introducing him to the girls has been good so far (this is day 1). Since he should be sexually mature by now, will his personality stay the same? I'm really hoping so. Any roo advice is welcome. I'm hoping to get some cross bred chicks out of this as well as just having a fella around. I would really hate to have to get rid of him any time soon. Thanks

I don't know if anyone can answer that for sure. Some stay nice, others (like mine) turn pretty mean. Best of luck

I hope he stays nice since we just heard his wobbly first cock a doodle do... it was really cute and the kids found it hilarious. They'd really hate to have to get rid of Walter.

Just expect the best. Most roosters are great, it's just that people wanna vent when they have a bad one, so that's what you see posted a lot. I've had chickens for 54 years and always had at least one rooster. During that time I've only had 2 bad guys out of hundreds. Just enjoy your new hero. He'll make you some handsome babies............Pop

Ditto and don't baby him.

I have a silkie rooster who is very gentle and LOVES his flock of girls. We even have a cockerel in with him and the girls and they get along just fine! He crows non-stop but then again, he is also very spoiled and has been eating out of my hands since he was 4 weeks old!
