Set these eggs this past Sunday 2/12..... my bright light went out so just using a big flashlight... but this looks nothing like what is on the candling pictorial. What happened? All of the eggs I looked at were like this? Incubator is running around 99-100, water trays are full, eggs are on an auto-turner... ?

I always have a hard time with candling pictures. The shells look really dark, so there may be veining there that you can't see. Wait until around day 10, and try again. In the egg candling pictorial, they use lighter colored eggs so they are easier to see.

Don't give up yet. When I am incubating very dark eggs, I don't candle them at all until lockdown.

I just hatched 10 out 11 eggs and 5 of them were brown. I never could see anything in the brown eggs. I finally just decided to just see what would happen and they all hatched. Im sure that with the right light you could see them, but all I had was a flash light.

ok... I just was concerned about one whole end being in shadow. All of them are like that... I guess that is the air cell or soemthing?

I always have to candle the darker eggs at night in a totally dark room. It usually only works when I move the candle to the top and then the bottom. Sometimes I can see movement that way, but never until they're past the 7-day mark. I usually just go by the contrast. Three Maran eggs were dumped at about 14 days because they were OBVIOUSLY clear as compared to the others by that stage.

well I was going to wait until later in the week, but I couldn't stand it. This is a green egg and the flashlight went through the shell easily but it still looks like one end is completely full ...

ETA - in the middle of that dark upside down horseshoe, there is a little shadow .... day 7 would there be something there? gotta go back to the picture thread

these look closer to day 13 pics? but I set them in the bator last Sunday. They were in my utility room before that, but it wasn't warm enough to get them going!!

Yep the looks about right. I just went and looked at some of mine that are in the bator that I set on the 10th and they look the same as yours. GOOD LUCK!

Weird.
Ok well like a genius I just now figured up the hatch date - could be interesting since THREE days later I will be leaving for Texas for 3 days. I'll have to see if my folks will chick / bator sit for me. YIKES

I was able to see veins in one of the green eggs today with a different flashlight... just barely. I am ready for this show to get on the road!

ETA: question These should hatch Sunday, March 6. If I candle a few days before and keep the ones that seem to be 'alive' and then they take longer to hatch - when can I take out the chicks that DO hatch on time? I ask because I leave early early Wednesday 3/9 morning and my folks will be dealing with chicks and bators.
