First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

I have no experience with RSL or BSL I heard they don't live long so I had no interest. Don't want to have a bird die at such a young age.

I was told she was a BSL when I got her. I don't remember what the exact cross was. She lays med-large brown eggs.

I am sure she is then, she just looks way different from mine, but as I understand it several crosses will make BSL.

GRRRR I hate Iphones!!

Mine just started vibrating and will not shut down, or allow me to do anything with it.....
Oh well. Time to go gather eggs again.

MMom, Birds that sleep outside here at night, unless turkey size are asking to be owl bait.

Yeah, you sure do have a lot of predators. We have raccoons and a family of foxes, but have been really fortunate. A hawk swooped down once to grab Clyde (our silkie) but Jumper (the head chicken in charge) took after the hawk as fast as her fat little body could take her. No hawks since. There was a magpie desperately trying to steal scraps from the gals... after 6 tries, and being angrily chased off, it finally gave up.

Honestly, last night I didn't take the flashlight because the moon was so bright. I locked up the gals and assumed everyone was inside... they ALWAYS go in together, every single one. Pearl is my only concern, but she has the hang of it now and I saw her roosting. This morning I was greeted by Clyde, Dixie and Captain Sparrow... not in the coop. Oops. They were really excited to see me though, they purred! I love chicken purrs.

Well, I must get back to making ornaments with the family. We each make a new one every year. Guess what I am making this year. I also carved one on my pumpkin. I am kind of obsessed.

Oh, one more thing before I go! Tomorrow we are making smoke-a-que wings for the game! Wings from our meaties! I am so very excited to eat them tomorrow! We had Korean style teriyaki/bbq grilled thighs last night. That one is always good, no matter what, but with the best chicken, even more insanely delicious!

From what I have read seasonal. BUT I am wondering if one of the eggs I have now is from a guinea.

I am how to tell.

I will be making them a covered run in a couple months and keeping the breeders locked up/

I cannot even find a "good" picture of a guinea egg.

I wish I had a good camera and not just an IPhone the color on the iPhone never comes through right.

I read the eggs were more pointy and more pink. I have pink and pointy but not in the same egg:

Here is best I can do:

The color is closer to correct on black background. BTW I have no white egg layers. (chickens)

The one on the left is pink, the one on the right is nearly white.

The bottom one is the one on the left, on white background

I think all cameras distort color to some extent, phone or "real" camera. I can never take the amazing picture that I think I am taking. Maybe I need a class... or a darn camera that sees what I see. Any smart engineers on our thread? Develop that. I will pay a pretty penny for a camera that takes the picture that I see!

Our Wyandottes lay pointy eggs. Don't know if that is typical or not, but the shape looks a lot like your egg that is almost white.
Your pink egg is beautiful!
I wonder if you have layers, but they just vary enough in genetics that your Guineas are not laying similar eggs. I really don't know. Just speculating.

My silkie is currently our best layer. They are supposed to lay around 3-5 a week, not great layers, mostly pretty and lap dogs of the chicken world. She is giving us an egg every single day. I guess it all depends on your particular gal.

Most all of my hens all have speckled eggs, and should not. I have taken away their free range oyster shells, still speckles. I read too much calcium causes this.. or some disease. I doubt this to be the cause. I added grower feed to their layer feed... not sure if that will help or not. I really am not sure if I should be concerned with the spots or not.

I get one of those pink eggs every couple days. My attempt to see who laid which egg failed. I will try again soon.

I get that white egg every other day. It is not white like a leghorn but is still very white. The weird part is I do not have a white egg laying breed!

I get lots of nice blue eggs and one olive green egg. The olive green one looks like a duck egg, except small. I have no ducks!

I get a few speckled eggs, I have read a bunch of stuff on them, I guess they are not normal, and can indicate a health problem. BUT I like their looks!

Ralph, you do have a white egg layer. It's called a Cornish Cross! Your hen must be laying!

My silkies lay very well when they actually lay. Mine also will lay every day for about two weeks. Then the stinkers go broody and don't lay for awhile. Then they start up again. Their eggs look kinda like the one in Ralph's pic on the right. A little pointy and a pretty cream. They are special to me. I love it when they leave me gifts.

11mini: That interests me that you say it was a barred rock hen and a red rooster. I say this because two of my babies are cuckoo maran, one appears to be a black copper maran, one is absolutely an easter egger who is very red (I though part rhode island red), and another that has cheek muffs but yellow legs, then there are the two that I kinda wondered about, one looks part copper maran and part something red, the other looks almost part gold wyandotte both are roosters, I'm sure of it, even though their combs are very small. They have pea combs or maybe rose combs. I think I just have a whole bunch of mutts. I love them and they are gorgeous anyway!

If I post good pics of these guys on here will you all help me make guesses at what they are?? I have another thread where I asked but it's like stinkin' crickets live there!
