First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Red Nugget- What you are doing is amazing. Ralph said it perfectly, as did you with your own story.
The exact reason we moved to the country. Well, my husband and I both grew up in the boonies and we didn't realize after college we actually hated living in a city (and by no means is Ft. Collins, CO a very big city). We had kids and moved the minute the housing market turned around and we could make a profit on our first home.
We have never been happier than on our little piece of heaven.
My neighbor has a developmentally delayed son and is mulling the idea of chickens. I will share your story with her! I think it would make all the difference in the world for him to have chickens. He LOVES ours.

MM I hope she decides to get them. It has helped the kids so much. When I first moved here about 25 yrs ago. I was out in the county and back in the woods. I'm still in the woods on what is now the edge of Savannah Ga. And Garden City annexed our little dirt road. We are still out so far we can't hear the highways. But we would like to move further out in the country someday. We rent on 5 Acres that we share it with 2 other families. So for now it's a good place to raise the kids. With good schools for special needs kids. Our other children are home schooled by Wendy.

I love watching mousers!

I have a Delaware that is better than a cat. When she digs it out the rest try to take it from her and the chase is on.
I think they are trying to dig up moles on the property too. I keep finding holes dug up about 2 inches across by 4 inches deep. I have cats but they have never done this be for. As for them being mousers that's great because they keep them outside. When the cats get them they bring them in the house and drop them in front of the stove. Gross. And the 6 of them do it often. I saw one of the chicks eat a frog the other day too. She had to run from the others. They chased her till they got it away from her then she snatched it back. They fought back and forth till it was gone. So exciting for the kids and me to watch

I got a drunk duck. Wendy found her drinking out of a glass of beer. Butter is stumbling around in her pen right now. We put her up so she wouldn't get heart. Not sure how much she drank. She's a Mallard and weighs about 6 lbs. Do you think she will be ok.

Lolololol:lol: sorry not funny. I once saw a show on animal planet where they couldnt figure out why all the parrots dying. Turns out they were eating fermented fruit. I dont know if beer will hurt her or not. I think we should wait for Ralphies answer. He might have some experience;)

1000

Thought I would give the thread a shot of cuteness. 4 of them r going to a new home tonight so these r the last few pics of those 4. Between the bator and 2 broodies I have 19 duck eggs set and development in all of them!! Ralphy its not to late to get some!! Lol:D

Butter the drunk duck lays egg that are fertile all the time but won't sit on them. We've tried to hatch them our selves but so far all failed to hatch. We have 2 eggs about 20 days old that are in the bater now. So maybe this time. I really hope Butter doesn't die she is passed out right now but still breathing. I won't sleep at all tonight I know it. If anything happens to her I think her mate Herb will be so devastated. He is so protective of her. Won't even let the chickens get close.
