First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Just talked to one of the neighbors. He was concerned about his dog attacking my geese and chickens. I told him not to worry. If the birds got out, they were fair game. Also if the dogs could get past my electric fence, I would pluck and fry as many as they could eat.

I prefer to eat my dog skinned and not plucked. I ate getting those pesky dog hairs you miss plucking them stuck in my teeth...

Hi All, I am back too. I miss the support and camaraderie that you all bring when I come here. Much better than the crap I am dealing with around here!

Mountain Mom: My heart is broken over Pearl and Clyde! I would be beside myself if a fox got Sunny and my silkies, Tweety and Snowflake. I would also be perched with a weapon all night!

Lucky for me, the only predators that I am fighting right now are the crazy horse people next door. No wait. I'd rather fight a fox. Hubby and them have had some words and they have been placing calls to get us in trouble because of our chickens. Really stupid since they have too many horses for their property size. We have a plan to move our chickens and they know that plan. Their horses have been here so long on like 1/4 acre that their grass doesn't even grow anymore. I hate conflict but these people are NOT going to take us down. Funny when you think your neighbors are your friends and then they turn on you like this.

We did look at a beautiful 50 acre farm this weekend. It would be absolutely perfect for our chicken business and other farming that we dream to do. Now to figure out out to raise the big down payment. We would move in a heart beat. However, we do plan on renting our current house out to a major redneck who loves working on broken down cars and having big parties. We hope he likes to shoot at beer cans in the back yard too and does not give two toots what certain neighbors think. Better be careful who you tick off, right? I may not actually tell you exactly what I think, but passive aggressively come up with your worst nightmare. Haha!

Jessica, I came across this thread accidentally but, after reading the first few pages I am hooked. I especially love the videos and your commentary. I thought Cornish x just lived in the food dish and were dumber than dirt. What a surprise to find they act like real chicks - with all the opportunities you have given them. I will be coming back - doing my best to read everything. Thank you for opening my eyes.

That is very sweet! Keep reading. Holm has a year old CX hen. Ralph's CX roo will be a year old the end of July and my little hen, Sunny will have her birthday on August 5th. I plan on making her a birthday cake of some kind. While I would not buy CX hens to keep as pets personally, I have found that Sunny is a delight to my barnyard. We kept her as an experiment but she is very sweet. Fabulous egg layer? No. Full of energy and character? No, but she has her own sweet personality and she tickles me. I love her! I have really loved the freezer full of delicious chicken as well.

Enjoy the thread and feel free to post any questions, concerns or anything. We are a great group of people that just love our chickens and want to support anyone else that feels the same!

Jessica,your stereotyping us REDNECKS

I currently have 3 broke down cars in my front driveway.lol One i just placed a new motor in,the second i have to change timing chain and gears for my son,and the third.. my wife refuses to let me get rid of. This Redneck also has the only concrete driveway that i poured,16ft x 200 ft. I don't shoot at beercans,Ive been sober now 2years. And Im saving my bullets for the type of neighbors you have problems with ( joke) I don't play loud music and i have as little interaction as humanly possibly with my neighbors. I wish I was in y'alls vicinity,I have alot of experience with dealing with troublsome neighbors. The first thing is to know your state and local statutes. Wich I do.

Then make the law work to your favor. This is something 99.9% of people causing problems are ignorant of.Over the years,Ive had more than a few call law enforcement on ME for one thing or another on MY PROPERTY. 4 of them have ended up in jail. KNOW THE LAWS AND YOUR RIGHTS. In the last month two more have moved out. This means I will have to school a new batch. I will say a prayer hoping you and DH can get the larger place.MY goal though would be to teach the neighbors they much prefer the BAD NEIGHBOR DIDN'T know they existed. Lol Just me and my medicated opinion

Drumstick Diva Welcome to this thread....... May you be protected from the spirit of the chickadee....

Jessica, I would skip the redneck idea, they could end up being best friends with the horse woman. I would contact an inner city church or charity and offer the property up as a homeless shelter and meth recovery camp. I would also experiment in what environment produces the best skunk habitat. Also advertise for outlaw bikers to use the area for their meetings and initiation rites.

Good luck on finding away to get that 50 acre parcel, that would be a dream.

JR.. Gratz on your two years. However, it is because of that I was forced to step up my consumption, Pabst Brewing stock was taking a hit and I felt it my duty to step up and save them. How was I to know that increased vodka and Mike's consumption really did them no good. On the bright side my liver function test yesterday came back normal.

I have a chick in ICU again. My little cochin chick, my last cochin, he somehow hurt himself yesterday. He had managed to get a wing and foot stuck in the feeder, I have no idea how he did that.

I have eggs that are/were suppose to hatch on the 22nd. I have about 2-3 dozen in the hatcher and not one has even pipped! I have half a dozen Cochin eggs, nothing happening then either. Arrrgh!
