Heat index of 107 degrees.

Yeah, about the same in Shreveport. I went out at 7 am to try to put my drunken compost together. It took 15 minutes to get set up and I had to come in 10 minutes later. I got about10 percent done. I have the a'larm set and will be ready to get a bunch done, I hope. Heat waits for no one.

Has anyone heard of someone trying cornish x giant cross
All I know is that my Sunny is a GIANT cornish cross. I think that if you tried to get something bigger earlier that you may have really bad luck healthwise. I feed this giant stinker only once per day and am frankly surprised that she is still going strong. I'm glad because I love her to pieces! She doesn't free range the whole property like the rest of them but she moves about all day to different sunny or shady spots depending on what she feels she needs. If I could get her temperament in a regular size chicken, I would have a ton of them.

JR As I think more about it. Jessica makes a good point.

I think the Giant Jersey/cx would be a worthwhile experiment, You would really have to hold back feed and get them exercise. I know little of the Jersey giant, but if they are fast growing it could be bad, if they are slow growing it good be great.

Bert is barely getting around. He seems happy pain free but does not move much anymore. Whatever happened to his feet, bumblefoot or injury has really taken it's toll on him. I am keeping him inside a run with my Middle schoolers. I have had a problem with predators, as you know, and when I let Bert out the other roosters pick on him too much.

Anyways my point is Jessica could have a good point here. While the cross would be fun, just be aware you could end up processing the chicks at a young age or lose them to heart, kidney, liver problems.
