First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

true dat!

I have a ton of old washing machines and dryers. I keep thinking if I had some time and skills I could make one out of them.

Oh wow, how did I not think about that - an old washing machine would probably do well, if you could get the speed and plucker fingers right... You could even maybe find a way to fit the fingers where there are drainage holes.

Of course, I am SOOOOO not handy (when I try to DIY, it inevitably ends up more expensive and of lower quality). I'm planning to keep my harvest on a smallish scale, and most will be Naked Necks or Naked Neck crosses (in the future), so I'm going to try hand plucking at first before committing to a plucker.

But please let us know how it goes if you get the washing machine/dryer thing to work!

I would like to get or make a "whiz bang" plucker so I could do three or four at a time.

We made one it works great. 3 seconds and it's done.

Can you post more detailed pictures?

Maybe a video of it running?

I am kinda slow and need things simple..

Did you just cut the bottom out of the barrel?

What keeps the motor dry?

The one my dh built looks much like yours chickapee. I can't even remember what we spent for parts but it was way less than buying one!
