Sheesh. I swear. Every time I get busy and can't make it into the B&G, I find trouble when I get back. A Flock Master must come and hose you all down.
Dust off my stool folks! I have been gearing up for my biggest project of the year and have done enough folding, envelope licking and stamp applying to last me a year. Much has happened around here and I must share.
First, I am living vicariously through all of you with meaties. Watching the vids and seeing the pics is really making me sad that I won't have time this year to raise any. I love them! I do still have some in the freezer, so it isn't pressing and since the egg biz adds much work to the schedule, I just can't add meaties too. I told hubby we ARE doing some next year though!
Second, I am so sorry that pack of dogs got your flock Red Nugget! That is terrible. My German Shepard and Pit keep pretty much anything or anyone from entering our yard. They love the chickens and do a great job of protecting them. My Pit has even knocked a few aggressive roosters off hollering hen's backs when need be.
While I am not for killing anything that isn't for food or is an absolute danger to your life, I do believe that sometimes when your livestock is being attacked by animals you have got to make it stop. We learned this the hard way after a severe nightly attack that wiped out 14 of our hens over the course of a week. Completely decapitated hens were found every morning. My poor girls were completely terrorized, traumatized and then ripped to shreds. I will not share what the culprit was or what we actually had to do about it but let's just say that peace has been restored. I will never allow that to happen to them again. It was a nightmare!
On the egg business note: We had a record week and I delivered 311 dozen eggs to stores this last week. Super exciting!
Another super exciting thing is the Wicked Witch of the West next door has put her house on the market. Anyone want to move to Oregon and buy a big, beautiful over priced house and be my neighbor?? Must not be snooty and love chickens!
