First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

One of my wifes friends is wanting some laying hens. I told her I had too much invested in hens that are already laying. I told her i would sell her chicks for 3$ each str rn that didn't need a brooder.

They will be hybrids
I think the price is more than fair. If you figured up what you have in those birds, you might likely be taking a hit at three bucks and generally speaking, F-1 hybrid layers are better than either of the pure parent and the cockerels will also frequently get larger than their sires. So good for her if she's the type who will have them processed.

With your wife in the deal, she might think the chicks should be gifted.

I am so glad the mad rabbit is back!!

And 3 bucks is a fair price, meaning you are under charging on them. I start at 3 bucks on my cheapest day olds and add 1 buck a week.

I was giving the chickens the eye today. Gonna have to start separating the breeders from the general flock before long.
Had to put one of the 3 month olds down. Feather picking and it was highly infected. They have plenty of room but if one is slow to feather, the others start cannibalizing. The only way Ive found to stop it is to remove them until they grow feathers. It's hard to catch though. They can have a major wound into the body cavity in a days time. Its extremely aggravating

When i finally settle on the birds i want to continue with i will probably attempt a 3 clan system. That should ensure that I can maintain the genetic diversity in a closed flock, and still breed for specific traits
