First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

To be honest I'm trying to get away from the solid white of the broilers. Too much predation to contend with

I agree, and I think I got a bit tired of looking at white birds when I was breeding La Bresse & White Leghorns

White Lace Reds should be white at the feather base.

Most important...check out the color of the afterfeather and superior umbilicus.

I will take some pics. In the colored drawing, yes the feather starts the coloration at the Superior umbilicus, the afterfeather appears white. Again this is an artists rendering. I will need to do some macro shots and post them. I am not sure if the offending pin feathers are red in color until fully grown out.

Answer for this bird is...white superior and inferior umbilicus for the feathers I could look at while bird is flailing. Areas include: neck, back, coverts.

True to past experience the chicken eggs That shouldn't start hatching until the 6th are way ahead of schedule.
This tells me that contrary to what I've been told and read, the embryo starts developing if not stored BELOW 70 degrees.

I normally collect eggs over a 3 day period. I place them in an egg turner in the house until I'm ready to start incubating. I number the eggs as i collect them. The hatch proves that the eggs are developing BEFORE going into the incubator. The temp is 99.5 according to three thermometers.
