Welcome to the thread.

Were you talking about CX's chasing each other?

If you quote the post you are makes it easier for us to understand where you are at in the thread.

I sometimes find myself answering or commenting on something several pages back and found it helps to quote.

Like right now I have an urge to tell Jessica bare feet in flip-flops is a no-no. Civilized society demands we wear socks with flip-flops.

AND without socks it is hardly embarrassing at all to ones offspring!

My daughter is so paranoid about me in flip flops with socks she demanded I NOT wear flip flops to her daughter's ( my grand daughters) baptism last sunday.

She found it even less funny when I said " well, I will make sure I have a new pair of socks on."

Dear Linda:

Please take this seriously and remember it is written with love.

Any person making the above statement should see a physician, or mental health worker as soon as possible. You could be suffering from severe dehydration or may have suffered a recent bump to the head.

Because I am such a sweet sugar based life form I start to suffer from melting and stickiness at around 80 degrees. A couple days at 103 would be a living, well you know what.

I gotta tell you I'm rolling on this. What I meant was on a hot year it could be 105+ for weeks at a time. A temp of 103 for a couple of days is a nice fairly warm summer. You just have not lived until you get 105 humid temps. Make you sick. I solve that problem by never going out. BUT I'm planning on a garden this year so hope it's not too hot.

Hey CC, great to have you. Tell me about your ISA's. I plan on ordering some in a couple of months. I hear they are so much better than the regular sex link chickens. Do you have roosters also? I saw a thread on breeding them to keep the fine egg laying amount up but not have to buy them again. They turn all white on the second or third generation. Also the same for Australorps, I plan on ordering Lavender Australorp eggs in the spring. We have a great lady in south La that raises them and will send me some. How is their laying compared to the ISA's. Or have you started getting eggs yet? Keep coming back to this thread. It's the best. We are friendly and kind.

11mini: I personally don't do ff but I never really had a problem with the smell from my cx on pasture because I move them so often. I am very sensitive to smells. The brooder is a different story and even adding shavings twice daily still bothers me once they get into the second week of age. I usually move them out to pasture before they reach 3 weeks old because of that. I never smell my layers and do pine shaving deep litter method on them.

How ever many cx you decide to do, you will learn quickly whether or not it is the right amount for the area you have. They grow so fast that they make their presence known very quickly. I do worry that if the smell from your layers bothered you that cx may knock you over.

FF may solve that but I haven't tried it. Mostly because I am actually quite happy with the results that I have gotten with the dry feed and my cx surround me so much that I don't think I could deal with a bucket and ladle without being mauled to death.
This is a new one for me. I've had regular chickens for 6 or more months and with the fermented feed I don't have smell at all. EXCEPT when it floods or storms. The coop is on a slope so it goes through but the smell is only when it is saturated. BUT the second coop is still on a slope but not as much. And have the Cobb 500 rescue chickens and rooster in a 12' x 2' stationary coop I noticed big time that there is a lot more poop.

So I'll have to clean it out more often. Still not much smell but I'm standing in poop by the nests. It's doable and I'll adjust. Still not sure if I'm going to keep the rooster. They won't let him breed them. BUT I've got a grand White Plymouth Rock coming in that is all MAN. I want to have fertilized eggs for a New Years Hatch a long

We cooked up very first CX chicken yesterday. 3 days rest, then my husband put an herb rub on it and roasted it on the BBQ (the "beer can" technique). We both agreed that it was the best chicken we had ever eaten. So much more tender and flavorful than the market chickens. We are sold.
