First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Hmm... should you have veins yet? I don't know about ducks...
I would do both!! If you have room for everyone, that is.

I read and it said if there is know veins within the first 4 days they are probably bad. I am gonna give them 2-3 more days.

That stinks!

I hope you see veins in a couple days! I will keep my fingers crossed.

MM Rick has a foot injury, I picked him up and tipped him over today. He did not like this at all! The pad on the bottom of his foot is swollen and the ankle. I noticed it because the poultry ring looked tight. I took the ring off to allow the swelling to go down. He had a full crop so I am thinking he will get better. He looks so sad right now. I even brought him some bird seed today from my wild bird feeders. Of course Bert and his girls ate it too.

It was so nice here today Bert took a stroll outside, I wonder if the earthquake centers recorded his walk on their seismology equipment.

I hope there are veins soon!! If not, I wonder if it is not the injury itself, but the attack that is causing an issue. Maybe he felt he was put in his place and doesn't think he is "allowed" with the ladies.

I hope Rick recovers quickly! At least you know he was still eating. I feel like that is a big factor in recovery for chickens. Are they still eating on their own? Likely they will be okay!
Any ideas on what is going on? Did one of his XL ladies sit on his foot?!

I was wondering why the ground was slightly trembling yesterday. I thought I maybe had too much coffee and was feeling jittery... must have been Bert going for a stroll.

Well I got rid of the eggs they all smelled and were rotten

. I am going to try and get 6-12 eggs from my friend. Hopefully I will get lucky with that batch

I think Rick hurt his leg jumping off the roosts. Rick seldom sits on a roost last week I caught him on the top roost which is about 8.5 ft off the ground. Rick while not a CX is not a small flying type chicken either. Jumping down from that height onto the frozen ground could have messed up his leg/foot. I am guessing he would dress out at around 9 lbs.

He is a Rainbow, yes? My Rainbow is almost as large as Pearl, she was the largest hen... until CX Pearl joined the ranks.
I bet you are right. A jumping accident.
