First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

TURKEY EGGS!!!!!
wee.gif

I cannot contain my excitement!! Clyde is dutifully sitting on eggs as we speak. I am sure she will continue until something peeks out of one of them!

Everyone has beautiful combines and tractors!

I do believe I have caught Ralphies deadly cold through the internet. I think I might die. BUT, that is likely the last you will hear of it. I am not as much of a whimp as Ralph, must to his dismay, I am sure.
Good thing my doc didn't catch me at the liquor store getting medicine for my hot toddy's.

DK- so sorry to hear of your sadness! Happy to hear you have a poultry enabler in your life though! Way to go DK's boyfriend!

I have decided to show everyone on BYC I am not crazy. My barnyard is a sordid place. It is like Peyton Place.

On the video below you will see a few minutes in “As the chicken turns”.

The star is, of course, the vixen of the coop, my little white rock. As the scene opens you will see her seductively bathing both in the nude and in the wide open. I am sure she does this to attract attention.

She does. First a modest BSL walks over and tells her to cover up and act decent. The white rock ignores her. Ole who considers himself to be every hens dream rooster notices the white rock and walks over to make his move on her.

The white rock decides to play hard to get, now. She is such a tease.

Then a Rainbow enters the stage from the left, her role is not apparent at first. Then we find out she is simply the “wingman” for a turkey gal. The turkey gal comes over and makes a play for Ole. We see her attempt to lock lips with Ole.

Ole is not into the larger gals and tries to avoid the advances from the turkey gal and walks away. Camera fades and we go to a commercial...

stay tune for next installment of “As the chicken turns”......

Ralphie, you have such an exciting life. All that drama. Lol. I miss my babies so much. Things are going so good for me now. I promised myself that I would really give it the BIG effort and man has it paid off. No longer using a walker and just carry a cane while holding lightly to the railings in the hall.

. Ready to get my groove back.

I am glad your getting around Linda. hope it gets better soon....

MM

I candled the diamond encrusted eggs.... of the 3 I have 2 developing creamettes!!!!....One week from today they should hatch.... I got another incubator today....It cost me dearly.... I had to buy my wife a new GPS...then guilt her into getting me a new incubator...

Tomorrow 6 creamette eggs hit the incubator....

Ralph: Your video reminds me of why I love chickens so much. They are just stark ravin crazy...just like me.

Linda: Yay! So glad you checked in and are getting better. Woohoo!

UPDATE:
The baby chicks are 5 weeks old now. OMG I can't believe it. Oh and one of them, I am absolutely positive is a rooster. Little stinker got past the professionals at the hatchery and hid from me until a week ago. I don't have the heart to do away with him yet, so I'll let him go awhile. He may make a wonderful future rooster stew.

I found a home for my beautiful "second to last" rooster, Chip. He rode in the car on my daughter's lap for the 12 or so miles to meet his new "crazy chicken lady" er..family. I am so proud of myself raising roosters so well that I can confidently adopt them out to families with children. He is a doll! Here is a pic of the trip. Things have been calmer and quieter at the Thistle Farm with out this little sweetie. He was a crower and ahem..a gang banger.

The only thing we had time to get done today, thanks to the stupid need to get tax stuff ready, is putting the solar panel on the top of the chicken tractor! Yep, I'm afraid of heights but had to go up the ladder and hold the thing, with nothing holding onto me nor anything for me to hold onto, while he screwed the panel up. Thank god for deep breathing and prayers. The solar panel will charge the battery to keep the electric fence charged for their protection as well as lights to ensure 14 or so light hours to keep egg production going.

Jessica she looks like she really loves the rooster.. and he is sitting so calm. I am glad you got a home for him..

I feel like I am repeating myself some on here. I am sure my fellow Minnesotans feel the same way. We have a very active Minnesota thread and I like to keep them informed and hear what is going on with them and I like to hear what is happening with the people here at Jessica bar & Grill...

Sorry Holms and Dandilioness that you have to read this again...

I have re-homed Nameless and my 3 young jakes... If you consider rehoming to mean they are leaving my home alive.

My wife works as a visiting nurse and the company she works for requires them to use interpreter services for some visits. Family members of the patient are not allowed to serve as an interpreter. She met this one interpreter a few months ago and they became friends. When she found out we have chickens and turkeys they wanted to buy some....ALIVE!!!!

She wanted 5 turkeys, but I only have 3 to sell. They want more young birds too, which means I can raise more CXS!!!! Nameless is leaving this weekend with them.... I am not sure how long nameless will be living once he leaves here, but in my little brain leaving here alive equals re-homing....

She is also taking 4 dozen eggs! I am so happy..

Yes, Ralph. She is a very integral part of raising these docile roosters. She loved this one so much that when daddy said he was about ready to take the hatchet to him, she nearly came undone. We would have kept him really, but the other rooster is actually a darn good rooster. He is also extremely docile but he actually really watches out for the hens. Unlike the one in this photo who spends his time courting Sunny and the silkies and just general other kinds of behavior that got irritating. Plus, I am sure he crowed more than the rooster we kept because it really is quieter around here.

What started as a good day ended as such a mixed day..

I like what my dogs eat and chickens make..

I caged the 3 Jakes to be sold today. The guy that was going to pick them up has not called, yet. I put them in the cage just before Noon. catching them and caging them was a pain. The one that was always attacking me did something dumb in the cage and his head is all bloody. I am not sure if the other two beat on him or he hit his head trying to get out. I am hoping the people still want him if not I will be butchering tomorrow... I have him in a smaller cage by himself now. I cannot believe he got beat up or bloody that fast.

I saw a turkey sneak into the woods this morning, I snuck behind her and found her on a nest. I waited until all the hens were back in the yard and went to the nest. I could not tell for sure where it was, and I saw her sitting on it! I did find a broken egg on the way to it. I think my rotten chow hound found the nest. I do not trust her to not eat and egg if she found it even though I trust her with the birds. Strike two for the day.

I did get the 6 remaining turkeys into a covered cage and coop. It went fairly well with the exception of the hen with the nest who fought me the whole way and even broke a hole in my net. Now I have to hope the guineas do not cause problems which is like hoping kids do not get into the cookies if left home alone...

I am going to make one more attempt to find the nest I cannot believe I cannot find it when I saw her hunkering down on it.
