First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

That is great!

Do not worry about them running out of food, it will not hurt them to be foodless for 12 hours or more.

Depending on how many you have a quarter acre is nearly free ranging...

If the feeders go empty for longer times you will be surprised at how much food they will find and how healthy they will be.

I feed them twice a day but before yesterday theyve always ran out well before the next feeding. My older kids who help with chores know not to refill the feeders until its time. But if they continue not "cleaning their plates" today we may cut back just a bit on the amount they get. Ive been watching them out my kitchen window today while I can and its so good to see them being chickens!

I have 28 in there. They are seperate from my layers. I hope it doesnt get too tight when they get huge.

Ahhh.. I see..

I misunderstood you, I feed mine for 20 minutes morning and night and that is all they get right now. When the 20 minutes is up, I remove the feed.

This coming week depending on how fast I get their new area done they will be outside birds, and will have a little scratch for about a week before they become free rangers..

Of course, they will need to take the oath of office, before I pin the Free ranger badge on their chests.

28 on a quarter acre is pretty good. I have a pen 65x50 for 70 of them for a couple weeks When they get the grass stumped down and the bugs out of that, they can run totally free.

Caught a dragon fly earlier and gave it to Trixie. She maintained control of the "ball" for a solid 3 minutes.Running and dodging at break neck speed while being pursued by 32 other players. I laughed till i cried

Had a fun working with my show cow today. I didn't know any pics were taken so I didn't look at the camera

Also got some pics of Zeus at his new home with all his ladies who aren't pictured. Look how wide he is!! I wish my CX hen would take to some of the breedings but none of the eggs have started

Have you read about sex identification by VENT direction. Horizontal or vertically
No, I didn't know about that.

I have a question this was our first year with meat chickens and we had the processed professionally. However we did not get our birds back.thats a long story the processor is trying to fix the problem. Anyway has anyone here ever tattooed a meat bird? We usually smoke ours and they are not for sale. So i was thinking i could put a letter tattoo on their backs at a day or two old? I realize this may offend some people I apologize. But we invested a lot and plan On doing again next year. Hopefully by year 3 we will be able to avoid using outside processing at all.
I don't believe anyone here has tattooed a meat bird. Why would anyone here be offended by that? These people have hung out with me for quite some time now. We don't get offended much.

I wouldn't tattoo because I would not want to eat ink.
