I know the chickens will feel better

Has eny one ever seen a chicken throw up befor? My son told me Sandy was droolung. So when I wend to pick her up she just spit out a little puddle of water. Then When he went to pet another one she did it too.

You whiners!!

Pull yourself up by your boot straps!

Summer is great...... Learn to enjoy the warmth. Why do you think we should suffer in the horrible cold, just because you guys cannot handle a little heat.

Learn to enjoy a Mikes!

If you wish the summer shorter I will pick up Holm and drive him to your place, then you will have BOTH of us to contend with all winter long. He will need lemonade and I will need cases of Mike's supplied by you.

We would not be pleasant being away from our birds!

Red Nugget- I have seen it happen once or twice. Only when it was really hot. BUT keep an eye on her. Make sure she keeps drinking, eating, etc. Is Herb back?! I thought he suffered a golden retriever fate...
I must be misremembering what you said.

Daskhan- Get well soon. Did they have your blood work back and say go home? Or will send the results to your family doc? It can take a few months for your thyroid to actually show up as an issue in blood work.

Jessica- 10 days with family?! Waaaaaayyyyyy too much for my taste! Glad you are able to get back to your regular routine... as grueling as it may be!
I promise, I didn't drink all the vodka! I've been enjoying sangria lately.

So, last night, I am sweating to death cooking dinner and my daughter comes in and is so very proud of herself. She told me she put all the birds away, got them all into the coop before they wanted to. Even turkeys. I think, hey, this is great! Tell her thanks for helping. Never thought to double check. She is nine. Pretty capable.
ALL the birds are out this morning when I get up. Sigh.
I wonder what "I put all the birds away" actually meant.... Anyhow, just glad the fox didn't show up last night!

HAHAHAHAHA!! I agree! And I don't even have as cold of winters as you do. I prefer nice warm weather.

I lost Ernie yesterday.

He was here in the morning and he missed chicken TV time. I was not overly worried because he likes to hang out at the edge of the woods and eat raspberries. I went looking for him and he was no where to be found. No feather, nothing.

I am thinking I have a large predator that would remove a full grown huge rooster with inch long spurs and not leave a feather. OR I have some low life neighbors that wanted to eat a rooster. My guess is MM's fox moved here.

I must be related to MM"s daughter. I put all the birds away last night. This morning I walked out the door to see a road runner AKA creamette running across the yard. Dangerous place for a teenage Creamette if Ernie can be taken.

I am going to have to move up my plans to lock up my birds...

Just when things are going great something happens. It is still not enough to make me give up on free ranging.

I need to figure out where to put the Toads. They are not layers and they are not creamettes.... Hmmm..

I hope Ernie shows up!

Hopefully you don't have the same thought patterns as my nine year old, Ralph. When questioned, she said, "I just shut the door and didn't lock it. I thought you would." Seriously.
At lock up time, you probably have too many birds for a head count, huh? That would be my suggestion.

If my fox moved there, I am so very sorry. He is a ruthless child born without a father. He will come in the middle of the day, more than once. He is not afraid of people. He can get on top of roofs. He is smart enough to evade traps and not take bate. He completely took out my neighbors flock (in 10 years they never had a problem with a fox...). Let's hope it isn't him.

Toads should have their own enclosure. You don't want them eating layer feed yet. And they may crush your precious diamond encrusted Creamettes trying to get into roosting position! Put them in Ernie's old house. The one he had with his Rainbows.

I am thinking of putting the toads with the turkeys. Toads are not CX's, they do not eat themselves to death, or do not appear too.

They actually roost about 3 feet off the ground, I worry they will break a leg flying down.
