First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Jessica we took a vote of the executive committee here at the B&G while you were gone and well:

Flip flops aren't really a prerequisite of joining us here at the Bar & Grill

Is just no longer true, it passed on a 2-1 vote to make them mandatory..

My husband nixed the house bird idea. My dogs were all for it, however, especially my spaniel who has a taste for bird. We are kind of at the point where either with let it be with the flock and see what happens, or cull it just in case it is harboring something.

I feel like I should cull it, but I'm struggling with that decision. Here are some pictures (I think it may be a roo). It looks in other respects like a CX

OK, I re-isolated it. I put a tablespoon of food in a dish. Either it's eating normally by tonight, or I'm culling it. I have to realize that letting it starve to death is no kindness.

Yeah, if it's not eating or drinking properly it will die of malnutrition anyway. I wouldn't definitely say she's ill but she may have some internal defect. I just had to do the same with one of my young pullets. If they are skin and bones with 24/7 feed plus barley fodder, they are obviously not going to thrive.

I don't think it's a slow broiler or any other breed of chick since Jenks only breed CX.

I know some will scoff at this, but I feed whole milk to the scrawny ones.
Why would anyone scoff? I don't allow scoffing when people give advice at the Bar & Grill. Don't you see the No Scoffing sign? Scoffing is only allowed when people post their stupid opinions regarding Cornish Cross being lazy, disgusting birds that are not real chickens.

Man isn't that true! I had a bunch of people from the Minnesota thread over this weekend for Camp Day. They were amazed at the sign and health of my girls. Every time a chicken person sees them and how active and nice they are, I make a conversion.

BTW they were in awe of Bert Junior on his size looks and disposition.

I have had people on other threads tell me you can't feed milk to chickens. They have every reason in the world it can't be done. I think when the health of the chick is at stake do whatever you can or want to see if you can help it.

I agree Ralph. Many people have a problem with reading something (often someone's opinion) and committing to memory as fact whether is or not.

I don't think that giving a chicken a full-time dairy diet results in the best health but there is nothing wrong with feeding them yogurt for probiotics or in your case whole milk for nutrition to a failing chick. At the most, they'd probably get diarrhea if being fed too much dairy products. People seem to forget the word MODERATION. I scoff at them.
