The Poulet Galouise that i rear are just a trade name give by the hatchery i use.

Most broilers here in the UK come from either Ross/Cob, Hubbard or Sasso breeders in france, the eggs are then shipped to the UK.
There is some breeder stock in the UK but is very difficult for small producers to get hold of it.

as you can see the free range coloured birds are becoming more popular and is getting a wide choice.

Hello everyone! Just picked up 10 cornish cross from an order I placed from the feed store a few weeks ago. Have enjoyed reading the first 6 pages of this thread. Hope to read more and learn more! I've butchered 5 roosters from my egg layers as they get "cocky" and have been disappointed at how little meat they have on them! Looking forward to my legit meat chickies!!

Welcome! !! You won't be disappointed by the CX. Their growth rate is phenomenal. I snuck back to tractor supply and got another ten. that's puts my total of Cx at 27,and overall count at close to a 100 chicks

Hey all.. so my court trial is over about my chickens.

I was found NOT GUILTY of noise/odor violation.

I was found GUILTY of fowl at large and for not removing chicken/rabbit manure off my property every 7 days because I compost it and use it in my gardens.

I had a $2000 fine, which $1750 was deferred. The complaining neighbor got $5 for his troubles.

Now once a week one of my gardener friends picks up my rabbit poo/dirty bird flick bedding/manure. We record it.

Anyhoo.. this past week I had 7 chicks hatch!! 1 white bresee, 1 ayam cemani, the rest are ccl x ac and ee x ac., 1 is a white bresse x ayam cemani. Then I went to a chicken swap looking for a tom turkey to mate with my Narragansett hen Jezebel that started laying eggs a few weeks ago.

I ended up buying 3 lavender orpinton chicks, 2 jumbo peking drakelings and found a 4 year old Narragansett tom to borrow in exchange of a few poults when they hatch and the tom turkey (we have named him Casanova) will go back to his owner in a couple weeks.

Quick question meaty bird experts...are the heat requirements the same for cornish x chicks? Mine are outside in the coop in a sectioned off brooder area with a heat light. It gets to be around 50 at night and 75-80 during the day. Their area is fully enclosed and draft free. My concern is them overheating. They can get away from directly underneath the light, but it's still pretty warm everywhere in the brooder. Id love to not use the light at all. I also dont want to do a heating pad but dont know if these chickies need to be raised the same as my layer chicks are. Thoughts?
