I frequently have stray dogs nosing around, a few inside my fenced acre, a 12 gauge with 00 buck fired nearby usually gets them headed for the hills. If not, shooting closer works.

A neighbor complained to the sheriff about me shooting at dogs, he explained to them that I was entirely within my rights to protect my livestock.

So glad the sheriff supported you! The only thing I am a wee bit concerned about when it comes to shooting a dog is having bad blood between our neighbors. The one with the dog in question is a good guy, just very "citified"...his attitude is kind of like, "my amazing dog just wants to come over to your place to say hi, what's the big deal?"

Where I live, it is illegal for a dog to be free roaming. I keep my dogs in a fenced yard, and expect everyone else to do likewise.

Since I load all my own ammo, I probably ought to load up a batch of 12 gauge with double ought rock salt.

Cornish X batch #1 is at 3 weeks old today, will band and weigh tomorrow. A couple days ago, I weighed one at random, and it was just under 2 pounds.

Wow, I hope I'm not doing something wrong...I weighed 4 chicks today, they are 2 weeks old today....they were 5 ounces to 8 ounces. I'm hoping they really start putting weight on after the 2 week mark.

There are different lines of Cornish crosses, some are slower growing. My first batch came from Cackle Hatchery, and are definitely the fast growing type. I weighed them all today, with an average weight of 37.45 oz, the biggest at 43.7 oz, and the smallest at 31.25 oz. They are at 3 weeks. I have been free feeding with Nutrena turkey starter at 30% protein, but starting today I am dropping them down to 22% feed 2X a day.
My second batch was purchased at Tractor Supply, quite a bit cheaper considering no shipping charges. They are the slower growing type, they are at 1 week, and I'm guesstimating none are over 5 or 6 ounces, haven't actually weighed any yet.

My hens are from welps. they were the slow broiler cross,it took around 14 weeks for them to hit 7#

I bought a paintball gun. Neighbors dogs are nice and don't chase my chickens but I don't really want them over here. I figure a paintball gun won't hurt them but will discourage them. When 5 of his cows were waltzing around my place it was great fun herding them with paintballs. LOL

Suck out the paint and replace with Ammonia.....

Well got the roosters on ice.
Of course the broiler was the best looking bird,dressed out around 10 lbs.looks like a small turkey. After him I'd have to say the barred rocks looked excellent,nice full breasts,they actually looked like young CX. The jersey giant and copper marans were a disappointment. Extremely long keels on the breast that were definitely on the skimpy side and long legs that were small also.The copper marans were almost indistinguishable from the jersey giant
