First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

All this talk about shooting dogs attacking livestock is making my heart beat faster.

2 dogs were on our property last week. I had already gone to work. Hubby saw the dogs and heard the commotion from the coop. He shot at the dogs but didn't hit either of them.

I haven't seen the dogs since then. Is it wrong I kinda want them to come back when I'm ready locked and loaded?

Well for my next adventure I got to start on my coup for the layers. I told the wife I wanted to get more cx and she about freaked.

I understand jr. My neighbor dog won't come to me when I have the chickens out. He won't even look at me. It's funny. He will come right up to me when I step into the street though.

Yes, dogs can be a problem. Animal control is most unhelpful here too. They will tell you you can't shoot the dog and to catch it and bring it to them, what a crock. This is clearly untrue. State law DOES allow me to kill dogs harassing my livestock which includes poultry. Best to just take care of these problems yourself, unfortunately. Glad I don't live in a city, then dischargig a firearm would be illegal.......

Sounds like pretty much the same laws as where I live. Recently took a shot at a vagrant dog that had been hanging around the home place. Neighbor called the sheriff. He, trying to explain while my wife was giving him an earful, said that we were perfectly within our rights to protect our livestock. BUT he wanted to make sure we weren't shooting up into the air, and mind the ricochets! I told him no problem, using a shotgun with double ought buck, and shooting into the ground. All's well that ends well. (Dog ain't been back, either!)
