what is that??
YOU WIN!! That is an amazing looking bird. I'm afraid with those tail feathers my cats would chase the poor birds. You don't know?
That is a "silver duck wing yokohama"
Their tails can get up to 27 ft long. However a more realistic length is 10 ft. They are beautiful birds but rare. I think they are rare because Cackle does not sell any hens. You can order hens but only roosters will come in the mail...
(ok I might have exaggerated a bit)
Back to the thread topic.
This week I will be adding 22 cx to my freezer. 2 will stay happily be with the layer flock until mating season. One less coop to clean and feed.
I live in the deeper southHow old will they be at slaughter? Got a question. I live in the Deep South where we're plagued by fire ants. I didn't think about this when we planned to raise our CX in a tractor. Other than obviously avoiding mounds, anyone have tips for dealing with these pests?
I live in the deeper southso we have loads of fire ants too. My birds have not been bothered by them. I have not had any build nests in my coop. I think they know better due to diggers. They do eat some bugs. I was told when the drought hit Texas the fire ants did not do as well and the ticks were out of control. They actually eat spiders, termites, and a host of other bugs. Yes unfortunately they do eat freshly hatched chicks. This is one of the many reasons I incubate.
