First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Another side of the coin though, is that it seems like it's a lot faster to get a male to breeding age than a female to laying age... So, you may have more luck keeping a cock alive long enough to breed him than you would with a flock of hens trying to get them to laying age.

Also, it seems like you get bigger (healthier?) chicks out of bigger eggs, so maybe a good laying breed with a hen that is already making decent sized eggs would be the better mom than a CX pullet who may be producing tiny eggs.

I agree with the first part, as I said take what you can get and run with it,

On the second part I disagree CX pullet egg is well over 2 ounces and by the 4-5th egg it is at 3 ounces. Not many layers can match them in size.

Dr.Ralph, once AGAIN your prediction s have proved out. Foghorn IS ABLE TO BREED SUCCESSFULLY!!!!! :) the one test egg I placed in the incubator was from a hen with him as the sole rooster for over two months. Tried to candle it, couldn't tell one way or the other. Cracked it perfectly forming embryo!!

Now I have to wait until the incubator full of turkey eggs, and EE's hatch. Then I will try some CX over dark cornish and welp slow Cx

the young pullets waiting their turn :)

What type of incubator do you use Ralph

I have a few incubators..

I have a farm king or something like that..

I have 3 farm innovators...

I have 3- GQF 1202's incubators and one GQF Hatcher that takes 6 trays so it handles two 1202 incubators.

I figure I can do about 400 birds a week if I really work at it.

I would like to get a bigger one, but the WWD is anti-more incubators right now....
