As I've seen people lament, this is a thread about CX. And I'm sorry if your put off by the conversations we have. Its an exchange of ideas and experience for the most part. I have read this thread from beginning to end a couple of times. One of the core themes IMO has been raising CX in a way that meets our needs in a more humane way. And I don't mean a tree hugging Mary Poppins way. The birds are still for consumption. From there the natural progression is to start wanting a renewable source. When you reach that point, I'd really encourage you to reread this thread. Some of the people here have made, and continue to have spectacular results. At the end of the day you can only say so much about a CX. To sum it up. Manage the feed.
JRNash- you are determined enough to read through. I only got to page 168. ;)

I managed to get into a good rhythm and harvest the remaining birds today. at 8 weeks and 2 days I've got some 4, 5 and 6 pounders. 100% survived. there were no major health issues this go round. I have chickens filling up every freezer and fridge shelf, LOL! I really wish I could make a study of the food options. I don't think I will ever use the finish formula I used this time, the smell just kind of permeated everything and the birds were wasteful with the crumble.

What type of crumble? I know Dumor will make things smell. But its relatively cheap.

5/8CX - 3/8 Dark Cornish group doing well Hatch date 5/2/17

Are you seeing a lot of difference in life span and mobility when crossing a CX back to a dark cornish?

I have to admit I am not real familiar with the dark cornish, (like not at all) is it simply a dark cornish rock? So you are bringing in one of the smaller parent stock to the CX to help relieve the stuff they did to them in the engineering of ther CX?

white cornish is the C in CX , but good luck finding one.. white rock is rumored to be another in CX mix
white cornish is supposed to be meatier than the dark, but the dark still has the big breast compared to other heritage
white rock is supposed to be meatier than the barred rock, both have the cx body style w/- the breast .. none have the cx growth rate
