They might try but, it is not likely to be successful..You would need him to stay around until the hens lay eggs and not pullet eggs...and by then he will be crowing like a banshee.

That's not as practical with chickens as it is with other livestock. The second you collect from a rooster you're on limited time to get the semen to the hens before it starts dying off which isn't terribly long. I think after maybe 5-10 minutes it starts to die. And this has to be done 1-2 a week for decent fertility rates. In other livestock semen can be stored for a VERY long time. They have straws of semen who have been dead for well over 40 years.That's kind of a bummer, but if you want to breed them(and can't get a roo), there is AI.
Whenever they feel like starting some start really early an some take their sweet timeWas going to breed them, but can't have the crowing. So yeah I can just stick to just neat birds.
