First signs of a roo?

I was worried that my biggest chick would be a cockerel, but she was still a pullet. It's almost impossible to really tell until they're a few more weeks old. I wasn't absolutely sure until they were about six weeks, I believe. If you bought all females, there's obviously still a chance of getting a male in the mix, but females will also be trying to figure out their pecking order. I have one in particular who was very active and bossy and acted like what I was described a male would act like.

Good luck!

That is encouraging!

My Austra White’s name is Punky Rooster because she looked like a rooster as a chick - comb developed fastest, she was bigger, and she acted more forward than the others. But, she turned out to be a girl and is the best layer of them all. Fingers crossed for you!!

Do you have a pic of her?

I do! This is her as a younger chick and an adult - the light Brahma she is with is the same age and she was like twice her size for a while (which is when I was sure she was a he).

I have a second who is about six weeks old…I’ll get a pic of her too. Haven‘t taken any of her this week and she’s really feathered out. She has more black than Punks.

She’s so cute!!! I can’t wait to see mine grow up!

Here’s my younger girl - about six or seven weeks (and still inside because it’s chilly here). She got more of a splash and she has the same bold attitude as Punky. First one rushing to the front when I open the door, first one to the fermented food (what she’s standing on), first one to fly around and cause trouble when I let them out into the sunroom.

They really are a goofy breed (and also happen to lay the best pinkish eggs and lays more consistently than any other breed I have). Post pics as yours grows up! 🤩
