First time at Auction - Rare Mille Fleur Leghorn Hatching Eggs - One Dozen+

erm Sandhills has them and a lot of other folks too, I'm not sure 'almost extinct' is the right wording here..I'll go $51.99

Near extinction only because most of what is out there, and the numbers are very small, are not even close to SOP. Starting with white legs, unfortunately.

If you know of other quality breeders I would be thrilled to find out who they are, Can you PM me with their info? Restoring the breed is my main goal and good SOP birds would be a welcome addition to my flock.

We are currently at $80 from cbreezrentals

Quick question: I realize you said no hatcheries in your listing and no Sandhill on the MFL thread, but I was just wondering exactly where your lines came from. And this is first generation of the parent stock, correct?

I'm breeding the mille fleur leghorns with stock from an east coast breeder and sandhill. Mine are young 2 1/2 - 5 months and I'll be culling out the white legs soon. Feather color and type is coming along pretty nicely, but the yellow legs are in the minority. These are a few that are getting culled. I'll try to get pictures later of the stock I end up keeping. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/258532/post-pics-of-your-leghorns/300#post_7161546

I purchased birds in the early days from Sandhill preservation but didn't use any because after growing them out I realized the quality was not to SOP, including white legs! Currently, I have birds from Rich Lehnert and JT Cashman in my flock and hope to introduce another line this year.

Yes my adults are F1 and there is still work to be done in creating a perfect SOP. My mentors and I spend a lot of time trying to track down people that are raising this variety. Most connections have led us to flocks that are not being bred to the standard and most with white legs. At the beginning of my search I contacted breeders like Curtis Oakes and Paul Gilroy trying to secure some birds, but alas their flocks fell prey to predators.

It has been quite a journey even getting these birds, and a continuing quest to find better stock. If you are aware of other sources, I would welcome the information. After all, my end game is to bring these birds back to the glory they should be celebrating.
