There is almost no way to tell the difference between a Black Astralorp chick and a Black Jersey Giant chick. I ordered one of each but ended up getting 2 Black Astralorps. Some people say you can tell the difference between a Black Astralorp and a Black Jersey Giant by the color of the pads of their feet. One breed has whitish pads and the other breed has more pinkish pads. I could not tell any difference between the birds and now, at 1 year old, I am sure they are both Black Astralorps as neither grew into the much larger sized Black Jersey Giant.

Thank you! I am starting to lean more towards them both being black australorps at this point. They are both very interesting birds and very beautiful with their green beetle sheen. How long did it take yours to lay?

Actually, that pic was from just a couple days ago. So I’m betting yours and mine aren’t too far apart in age! I do have a batch of slightly older chicks that we just moved out to an outdoor coop a little over a week ago, but they aren’t laying yet eithe.
