First Time Chick Parents, Spring 2016

First time in coop and doing well except for the heat. Here are a few pics. I have rir's and two not sure of. If anyone has a suggestion and if you think it is a roo or pullet would love the feedback. Thanks!!
^ That one's an easter egger -- you can tell by the green legs! How old is it? Doesn't look especially rooster like to me, but all depends. I would watch the reddish on the wings and if the comb turns bright red soon or not (as compared to the others).

I just wanted to say, giving chicken baths is quite a bit of fun. We drove about 2 hours to a farm and picked up three ladies today: one 6 wks ameracauna, a 6 wks Wellsummer (best guess) and a little black baby 1 week. I wish I would have gotten pics. They all were 'dirty girls' and since they're moving to suburbia, they all needed a spa treatment. To my complete amazement they all loved it! It was great bonding time and all three fell asleep as I used the blow dryer on them. Totally adorable! -- BTW anyone else having issues posting pics from mobile phone on here?? I can't seem to add pics anymore. :(

Well, the Orpingtons are doing well out in the coop. They're already putting themselves inside for bed time....
But they all want to crowd into one nest box to sleep

I can't wait until they figure out the roosts.

I think people with android phones have been having issues for a few weeks now.

Adorable! I think a lot of people block the nest boxes off to encourage roost use...otherwise they may not have the incentive to change (chickens hate change).

Well, we went and picked up our 16 babies on the 25th of May. What a hoot!!! we fell soooo in love with them all. We sit in chairs in front of them with our morning coffee, mid day lunch, after noon beverages. its no surprise that we cant get anything done LOL.

we are sooo far behind getting our coop up due to the weather, baby watching,old age, and life in general. We borrowed my brothers small utility trailer and made a brooder out of it. We used the heating pad, pine shavings, cling wrapped towel and straw for our electric mama hen.... we call it the Eggloo :p which was a fantastic idea, thank you . we also have the heat lamp in the middle of the trailer on a time clock (14 hours daily 6 am til 8 pm) as its still chilly here and the garage has no heat and a lot of concrete flooring.

We keep the whole thing in the garage due to the temperature outside, lack of a coop and pen, and the critters that are voracious in the spring. Today we are going to build an outside chicken wire temporary pen that we can back the trailer up to for them to get some free range time while we are working on the coop. they will go back in the trailer and into the garage for the evening safe keeping.

I haven't figured out how to get photos from my phone to this PC to show you "the kids" but ill work on that.

Have no idea for names though.. Andy suggestions? I think we have four or five girls and one or two roosters

@zaapoole
I had a hard time with names too, but ended up doing an online contest thingie where people post song names that are named after women and then others got to like those submissions or make their own.

All the chicks got named and every time I think of them a song pops in my head

I really enjoy it!
