First Time Chick Parents, Spring 2016

I'm feeling so defeated. I have 8 chicks. 3 for sure roosters. 1 pullet. And 3 suspected roosters and 1 unknown.

Not sure what the plan is now

I believe this is how chicken math starts. We got 8, lost 1.....5 of the 7 look to be boys, so we got 6 more chicks

Well this is truth. I got 6 chicks 2 I took back cuz they were the wrong kind. So I got 4 more. 6 are Roos so I'm selling 3 waiting on the other 3 and getting 4 more. I went from 4 to 8 to 9 lol whoops

I too am suspecting I am heavy on roosters. I'll try and get some pullets if so. Not much you can do with straight runs.

It's unfortunate because I'm so attached to my roosters. This is my first chicken experience. I tried to get special breeds. I wish I had of just got sexed pullets. I feel like I'm in a chicken mess now.

Got my bard rocks on March 12th. Lost one so we now have 8. Plus two ducks. They go in the coop in the daytime but they are constantly getting out of their brooding bins , roosting on the sides (thank goodness for chuk pads) and pooping all over my laundry room floor. I have turned the light off for the ducks because they are so big almost no room in their bin for them food and water. The weather is nice right now not hot or cold. Anyone know if I can leave them outside with bedding shavings? We never used a heat light just a red flood lightblb from Lowes and it kept them pretty warm and cozy, only 100w.

Well ours are officially in the awkward stage. They have my sympathy, I was awkward as a teenager too.

I had to hold them all because the second I let them go and sit on my hand, they fly down and clean up the crumbs from my kiddos left under the kitchen table.

And it was a sad week. We went from 5 chicks to 4. Our little sweet Goldie (a bantam) had a slipped tendon that was getting worse, so my husband culled her.

I'm sorry about Goldie. That's a tough call to make, I know. Know what call this stage of chickdom around here? We call it the puppy uglies....that stage when none of their body parts fit and those that do fit still look like they came off a different critter and were glued on!

Hahaha, Blooie! So true. Mismatched and ugly.

And thank you about Goldie. It was tough, and very hard on my little girls.

But we saw the pic of your hatchlings today and that brought smiles to us all!

I'm afraid once my girls are moved to their coop they won't know how to be chickens! So far my two EE have become lap pets that beg to be held and the six sex links enjoy watching The Lion King
Oh and they seem to enjoy music as well
