First time chicken guardian and the hen is blind. Seeking positive advice.

Do you think there is such a thing?? Maybe I could try small bandanas. I have a handful I use for the dogs this time of year..hmmmm. Thats a thought.. Thank you. If this works then I could take more naps with her. Lol.

Chicken diapers are available. Also I would suggest deeeeep litter in her indoor crate. It looks like you're in east TN. I'm in middle TN. You might want to consider something like this for your yard for her.

another alternative is house chicken. Please check out the "People with House chickens," thread. You'd be surprised at how many there are. My friend has had house chickens for over 25 years, different breeds. Currently she has 3 hens in the house and they shadow her dog when out in the backyard. He is their protector.

There definitely are chicken diapers (and duck diapers) available on line but, they are expensive. My friend thought they were more of a bother. She just have a rag handy and cleaning spray and cleans as often as they do.

When she leaves the house they all stay by the door(inside) and welcome her back hours later. Usually they have no messing till she comes home and she puts them outside.

You might want to check out your local Craig's list. Often times they have dog houses, dog runs, chicken coops(sometimes with birds & food included). Either at very good prices OR, even free when folks decide chickens aren't for them.

For blind birds it's best to leave food & water in the same place so they can find them.
They can do pretty well once they get used to things. I do hope you will keep her.

Many folks have special needs chickens, even read about a one legged rooster that didn't let that handicap affect him at all.
