Moving back into the old farmstead and have immediately inherited the chickens that were being raised by the tenant. She is taking her coop with her though since it belonged to a friend. I am considering using the old milking room in the barn as a new hen-house. My plan is to build a ramp so they can climb up. What else should I be thinking about?

! Pleased you joined our community! When you say henhouse, do you mean coop as well? Probably not too warm in Vermont ever but if it ever is does the milking room have some ventilation? That might be my only consideration. Oh, and you'll have to consider if you want food/water in or out of the coop. Also, you can chat with some locals in the VT thread of the link below. Good luck to you!

Hello from Oregon & welcome to BYC. Ventilation, Roosting bars, nest box are just a couple things to add for the hens. Best of luck on your new adopted flock :)
