Hello everyone! My name is Lindsay. I am married to a wonderful man named Sean and we have a great four year old boy named Weston. We live on just over an acre of land in Tacoma, Washington. We enjoy visiting with family and friends, camping, going to the park, and playing outside.
We have debated on getting some chickens for some time now and finally pulled the trigger. We got five new chicks from Wilco yesterday. We have one Rhode Island Red, one Golden Brabanter, one Buff Chantecler and two Americana/Easter Eggers. They are only about 3-5 days old. This is our first time having chickens although my husband had them as a child. We thought that our son is around the right age to really be able to help and watch them grow. He’s named them Pip, Chipper, Ruby, Brownie and Goldie.
We currently have them inside to keep the temperature warm enough and they all seem happy and healthy. Three of them have had pastey butt so I am making sure to monitor every couple hours and clean as needed. Once they’re old enough and ready, we will be keeping them in a good sized fenced area on our acre of land. This will keep them away from the coyotes and our dogs. We will most likely be adding some sort of cover to keep the hawks and bald eagles out of there. We will be getting or making a coup also.
Any tips you have for us would be very helpful and appreciated. We are very excited to start this journey!
