Hi.
My name is Sue and we bought our first chicks 3 weeks ago. I have been frantically working on finishing their coop since then. Hoping to have it finished and up this weekend. Finally a weekend with no rain in the forecast so we can assemble all the parts.
I have 2 Buff Orpingtons (Buffy and Willow), a Rhode Island Red (Amy Pond), and a Barred Plymouth Rock (Carl Sagan).
Our intention is to keep chickens for eggs and fun and all are supposed to be female but I'm afraid Carl in a rooster. (My son named him Carl Sagan though we thought we were bringing home all pullets.) He's about 6 weeks old and has a prominent, bringht red comb and is getting red waddles at the corner of his beak. This is sad because I live in a residential area and, though it is not illegal, I don't want to keep a rooster and annoy the neighbors. I'll have to start looking for someone to take him. He's quite friendly and quite a character.
I have found a lot of good information while poking around the site.
Sue
