Put away your water-wings everyone, things are looking up.

Right now it's sunny down here in the SE, sure hope it lasts for a couple days at least! The backyard is underwater, the duck coop which has been transformed into a LF cochin coop is snug and tight, but the Cochin trio are 3 crabby chickens, cooped up in the midst of the newly formed lake - at least they're dry. My mini-dachshund went out in the yard and started swimming.

The lab mix hates water (go figure) he was very reluctant to venture out and had to be coaxed with a well placed knee-nudge.

Still lots of dark grey clouds overhead, windy and only 50 degrees. Kept the chicks and the ducklings in the garage today.

Need to mow the grass but the mower doesn't have pontoons.

It sounds like your bird has bumblefoot. It's a staph infection caused by a cut or puncture to the foot (more common with heavier birds). Soak the affected foot for 10 minutes in a hot water/epsom salt solution. Remove scab and prise the wound open. Treat with hydrogen peroxide, dry, wrap with gauze and tape. Place bird in warm dry area. Give bird an antibiotic. The easiest injection site is probably the breast, halfway between keel and wing. Spread feathers, wipe with alcohol, insert needle approximately 1/4 inch.

What dose should I give him and how often? Just one dose or twice a day for a week? What?

Speaking of mushrooms! I was turning my compost just now and found that I had little two-three inch, skinny mushrooms growing in the compost. Is this normal or should I be concerned? I already posted this topic on easygarden, just wanted to see if anyone on here knew of what I was talking about.

Same here! Grass is growing like crazy, up through the lake in my front and back yards! Just got my tractor back ready to cut, but can't!!

Probably just toadstools, shouldn't hurt anything but I wouldn't try to eat them! They grow overnight practically, especially in good conditions like compost! Funny story my daughter and I still laugh about. One morning I was getting in the shower when I looked down and thought I was seeing things. Three tiny toadstools growing out of the bathroom carpet!! Mind you, I was working at the time, but always managed to vacuum once or twice a week. Obviously there was enough moisture in the carpet near the shower for these tiny spores to take root. We still talk about raising mushrooms in our carpet.

When I had to treat a D'Anver roo with an eye infection, I used .2 cc of Tylan over a 4 day period. Don't know if it would be similar for Penicillin, but it might help you guesstimate a dosage.
